Their signs are becoming more intense and extensive with every passing month. Interesting beasties with an amazing ability to engineer the environment to suit their needs. Here are a couple of piccies showing what they’ve been doing to some decent sized trees in Tayside. Lots of other impacts apparent, which nobody seems to be talking about at the moment – it will be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of years as they become more apparent.
I really wish SNH had set up a long-term experiment here, rather than in Knapdale, to look at these animals in a situation of natural colonization and where the habitat is so clearly suited to them, such a missed opportunity.
